Visiting us from Québec, maribé - sors de ce corps and Montréal Danse are going to be working on their new production BESIDE.
BESIDE is the final part of a trilogy created by choreographer Marie Béland called BEHIND - BETWEEN - BESIDE.
Through the different pieces Marie has been uncovering aspects of performance that typically get hidden. In the first two parts she asked audiences to look ‘behind’ and ‘between’ what they could immediately see. Using real-time radio as the soundtrack, the third part asks what happens if we look ‘beside’. What happens if we bring the outside inside the theatre? What might be found among news reports, pop music, interviews and car advertising?
In this Open Studio event maribé - sors de ce corps and Montréal Danse will be sharing some of the work they will have created over their residency.
Rachel Harris from the BESIDE company is leading Morning Class on Tuesday 14 November as part of the artist development programme we're running with Groundwork Pro. It’s at Rubicon Dance from 9.30am to 11am. Click here for information.
'She’s been touted as an up-and-comer, but what’s she’s dreaming up feels fresh, energetic and, yes, innovative.'

About the companies
Marie Béland set-up maribé – sors de ce corps in 2005. Over the dozen years since the company has produced works where indiscipline reigns with precision and verve. At first glance nonchalant, they are a starting point for a deep reflection on human nature and social mores. A note on the company name, ‘sors de ce corps’ loosely translates as ‘get out of that body’.
Montréal Danse is a long established part of the dance scene in Québec. Multifaceted in the way it operates, it has been led by Kathy Casey since 1996.
